Meet Mercer PeoplePro Lisa Jarmoszka
Where do you live – City/State? Palos Heights, IL – in the south suburbs of Chicago.
Start Date — October 4, 2015
What is your background/broad experience and/or career highlights? My career path has been winding, but everything I've done ties back to communication. I've been a high school and college newspaper editor, advertising/public relations intern, retail sales promotion manager, advertising/catalog copywriter and art director, employee communications manager, corporate event planner, business development/marketing manager, communication consultant/project manager, communication practice leader and worked in corporate philanthropy.
Education? I have a Bachelor of Arts in English Communications, Cum Laude, from William Woods University, with a Minor in Spanish.
Why did you choose to work for Mercer PeoplePro? I am a Mercer alum, and am excited about being a part of a new consulting model offering a great deal of flexibility and value for clients and consultants.
What specialties and skills are you bringing to Mercer PeoplePro? My skills and knowledge set includes: communication and community affairs strategy development and implementation; counsel to senior management; group facilitation; employee research design; training design and development; project management; strategic planning; event planning and management; speech writing; public speaking; people management; budget development and management; art and video direction; desktop publishing; business development.
What is one thing that clients should know about you? I've worked on both the client and consulting side, so I understand a lot of the issues and constraints they face, as well as what solutions are really effective and drive value.
What is something you are passionate about? I'm passionate about connecting people with solutions. I guess I'm a problem-solver at heart.
What piece of advice would you give to new employees? I advise new employees to invest time building their internal network. You can't solve complex issues on your own, so having a network of internal resources that can help you and champion your efforts is key.
What are 4 words/things that best describe you? Smart, loyal, intuitive, warm.
Is there anything else you would like to share about your job, your experience or life in general? My consulting experience, which began with Mercer, taught me process. Learning process was the turning point in my work life, because when you know process, you can apply it to any situation to solve problems. I'm also lucky to have a short learning curve, so I have the ability to get up-to-speed on content very quickly. And being very perceptive gives me an edge in understanding the nuances of my clients' organizational cultures.
Tell us about your family — I live with my husband Mark, our daughter Mari (9) and son Matthew (6) in Palos Heights, IL. I enjoy being involved in our children's school and activities, as well as teaching them about different cultures and experiences through travel.
Any pets? We have a small zoo – three dogs and two cats – all rescued, plus a variety of fish.
What was an outstanding event in your life? Completing the Honolulu Marathon in 1999, which I did as a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Only a year before, I had never run more than three consecutive miles; so completing 26.2 miles was a huge accomplishment for me. It really proved to me that you can do anything you put your mind to.
What are your favorite things to do? I love to sing, and have been a part of choirs and ensembles throughout my life, and enjoy outdoor activities of all kinds. The greatest joy in my life revolves around time spent with our family, especially the multi-generational trips we've been able to take.
What are your goals? I am a big believer in 'servant leadership', and am dedicated to using my talents to help my family, clients and community succeed. If I can do that, I know I will have fulfilled my purpose in life.
What is the favorite place you have been to? I've had the good fortune to travel a great deal, but my favorite place is Tucson, AZ. I love the weather and pace of life, and the mountains have a meditative effect on me. Our hope is to have a home, a few acres of land and a couple of horses in the foothills someday!
